The transition from academic to professional life

The transition from academic to professional life demonstrates the concept of freedom. When a person is born into a particular economy which is controlled by specific norms, it becomes difficult to transform dreams into realities. Freedom begins with the state of the mind. A mindset that is fueled by a clarity of purpose cannot be denied freedom. It all depends on the attitude and responses to adverse situations.

Freedom is achieved when challenges are regarded as stepping stones to higher heights, rather than as scary situations to be avoided. Such situations are very common in many countries around the world. As a teenager, all that my mind could perceive are the best outcomes. It is a period when my dreams are alive, vibrant and reachable. Parents are the primary sponsors at this stage, and there is no worry about getting a job. Life at this moment is “milky.”

There is a drastic change in scenario at a my post-teenager age, when i had successfully graduated from college. At this time there is a pressing need to join the job market, and be a significant part of the workforce of my country. Parents during this period demonstrate change in attitude in the negative direction, especially when it concerns financial issues. The graduate is looked upon as an adult, who is to cater for his basic needs, and possibly provide financial support to parents, who graciously contributed to his upbringing at a particular point in time. For female graduates, it is even more difficult, as she may start experiencing pressure for marital matters. Fortunately, I am a male graduate and the associated complications of womanhood are not applicable to me.

In the face of this dilemma, I had to embark on a serious job hunt, so as to reduce the pressure that was building up on me.. My first search was for my ideal job that is connected to my childhood dreams. I had always wished to be employed in the banking sector. Due to the allocation of certain jobs based on social status and nepotism, my freedom of choice and expression was silenced. When the search failed, I had to try the next possible job option, and by some unfortunate trend of events, the second search was unsuccessful.
