SOMETHING I LOOK AT-128 SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY RESPECT LIFE Am I so selfish, not at all concerned about the generations to come? Am I an idiot, so eager to bring my own annihilation and all that exist right now? Am I so engrossed in my own pleasure, unresponsive and indifferent to my environment, have no time to listen to what it says? Plants and animals, trees and creepers, all say in one voice that I am the one who has betrayed them and for me, for my temporary gain and shortsightedness life on earth is on the verge of extinction. I am the one responsible for what is happening right now. Be it is depletion of the ozone layer, acid rain, global warming and melting of the glaciers, I have my mystic hand behind each of them I am the culprit, so I am to set things right As life on earth is in jeopardy, I have to fight with all my might, bring a balance between economic development and the environment, plant trees, manage industrial waste, bring pollution to the minimum if I am to live and let my future generations remain alive. A LOOK AT LIFE-103 BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY NOT A POEM It is more than a battle More devastating than any war Ever fought in the history of mankind Something you have not encountered as yet However cruel and powerful may be the enemy Whatever may be the situation You may not have the weapon to Face it in an open combat But you can always go back and stay inside Take your own time To ensure the victory of mankind You have to win not only for yourself But for all of us, the humanity as a whole I am afraid You don't have the second option The option of losing You can't be the cause of defeat Of the whole mankind. We can't go back to the days From where we have started When our ancestors were roaming in the forests Here and there protecting their lives And searching for bare necessities It was their ceaseless quest for a better life And identity for which we are where we are At the zenith of glory Spirit is at the lowest ebb The economy is in very bad shape The battle is long and tedious Most of us confined to home Commodities essential are hard to come But we should not forget those Far away from their near and dear At the forefront risking their lives Fighting against the virus Some are away from home Circumstances forced them to be on the streets Walking hundreds of kilometres to reach home Some are not that fortunate Staying in asylums fighting against all odds Life is difficult But not as difficult as you think it to be We do not know How our tomorrow will be But we have to gather strength to fight A long battle is ahead of us Life is a struggle for existence And the show will go on Irrespective of the scenario Heart, mind and reason to work in tandem To come out of the situation To ensure the survival of mankind. When existence in jeopardy We should be prepared for the supreme sacrifice What is most unfortunate is We are feeding the enemy in us Helping its mission By carrying it from one place to the other Our body is its safe haven Jumping from one to the other Extending its sway all over Is its passion unlimited Our body is its fortress To kill it we can not kill ourselves But we can halt its rampage By protecting ourselves And checking its further spread By not allowing our body to be its prey By breaking the chain Giving any milage to it is suicidal Non-operation is the only way Left to us to ensure our survival While enjoying all the amenities Look at you neighbour See how he is While enjoying a sumptuous meal See how many of your lane are Struggling to make their both ends meet. Forget not You are a human being Love, affection and fellow-feeling Are flowing in your vein and artery Never hate someone suffering from the virus Tomorrow it can be you, he and me Love the victim with all your heart But remain away from the enemy Silently looking at you with a disdainful smile. You are for yourself, not for others You are for yourself, so for others The moment you realise this Corona will silently wither You take care of yourself We are taking care of ourselves The system, doctors and body immunity will take care of the rest Fighting against the virus Smruti Ranjan Mohan ©Smruti Ranjan mohanty #LostInSky A LOOK AT LIFE-103 BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY NOT A POEM It is more than a battle More devastating than any war Ever f

Thanks and gratitude to Prof Cijo Joseph Chennelil, eminent poet and internationally acclaimed literary critic for his beautiful critical analysis of my piem 'A LOOK AT LIFE-45'.Thank you very much sir for wonderful words of appreciation Smruti Ranjaniji, Your poem titled"A Look At Life-45"is a timely poem advocating for an ecocentric view of the world rather than an anthropocentric view of the world.Today we still follow that old paradigm of development wherein all activities of us human beings are concentrated upon ensuring maximum comfort level for us human beings here on this earth even at the cost of the survival of the flora and the fauna in this world. We are so immersed in this game of claiming the ownership of this world that we don't mind that the fate of the world dangles at a precarious position with the ecology, environment, nature and atmoshere of it highly impaired and damaged, the natural elements of the world are highly contaminated and polluted and the earth appears to be a waste land which is to be put back on the rails. The effect of global warming is for all of us to see with the temperature level of the earth skyrocketing like never before, due to the rise in temperatures of the earth, natural calamities do come to the earth thick and fast in the forms of hurricanes, the rise of sea level, the submergence of island nations around the world and the huge and massive replacement of the people. The point we human beings need to remember and imbibe into ourselves at this juncture is that to have a deeper understanding of our position here on this earth that is that this planet is not our exclusive realm alone rather it is a planet on which all creatures of this earth do have a natural claim as we do,so we need to co-exist with all the creatures here on this earth,if not we shall be slowly eradicated from this world because without them and an ecosystem of balanced nature,we can't ensure our survival for long.So what we need to do is to preserve and conserve this earth and hand it over to posterity in the way we have got it from our ancestors. We also need to make sure the sustainability of Mother Earth and we must follow sustainable developmental patterns as well and most importantly let us follow the principles of "Live and Let Live and Give and Take",that is the only way we can surge ahead in our lives,so let us envisage for the ushering in of an egalitarian and eclectic society.Kudos to you for composing such a poem of exquisite and marvellous nature making a clarion call to reformulate our strategies in terms of the ways through which we have to live in this world. A LOOK AT LIFE-45 BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY Solely concerned we are with our own suvival hardly think others who coexist with us have life of their own the worst victims of our selfishness and misadventure here We lament our own survival is at stake existence in jeopardy with global warming, environmental pollution and attitude of man putting a serious question mark as to whether there will be any life on earth So obsessed we are with our own survival hardly pay any attention to the environment that nourishes us the culture that sustains life on earth Man being the most clever and assertive animal on earth has deprived others of their due endowed by the Almighty and made a mockery of their life how many of us accept the truth that this beautiful earth is as much ours as it is theirs There is a limit to exploitation a limit to the theory of survival of the fittest, beyond a limit non will survive and the fittest will succumb to the ire of nature Time to rethink and reorient ourself time to internalise our cultue that stands for love and reciprocation spirit of tolerance, compromise and peaceful coexistence Let 'live and let live' be the motto or else we only we will be held responsible for the complete annihilation of life on this beautiful earth copyright@smrutiranjan 29.9.2017 #Thanks and gratitude to Prof Cijo Joseph Chennelil, eminent poet and internationally acclaimed literary critic for his beautiful critical a
