Nightmares were supposed to end When you open your eyes In my night wear I toss and turn, breathing heavily, my temperature getting high I still see him, I still feel his hands making it's way beneath my thighs He doesn't stop, as if my screams were not enough, I could hear him sigh I lie down in tears, legs open wide and in my mind all I asked was why He bends towards my ears and whispers, "I'm almost done, don't you cry" The ones that knew kept asking one question only, "why didn't you fight?" As if my strength could match a man of that stature and height As if my reaction in that situation could make it right I had no torn clothes to show, no scratches on my skin to prove So they stood as judges and judged my story loose They doubted if I was the victim, I doubted if there were any rules Nightmares were supposed to end when you open your eyes Except when that nightmare is a person, roaming the streets down by your house Or the uncle that came to visit just a few days ago Or the nice guy you met Laughing and sharing jokes with people you know For me, my nightmares never ended, they were very much alive @nsoul.poetry #nightmares
