There were no signs like they were talking about
"He looks like a terrorist; he is sweet; he is like a brother in dream"
"She is bitch; she is plain,in vain;she is way above our stand"
"That uncle, a stupid anarchist, atheist and saddist"
"That aunt, arrogent, selfish; one satisfied by her life"
"That cousin, happy and peaceful, or childish or hateful"
" that pedesterian, his eyes were following mine, he is a not a nice guy"
"That old man with his stick, can't he just die off instead of eating us alive?"
"That mom, she can't understand a thing, dad discipline her a little"
"That father, he is outdated and strict, god what the hell is he!"
" that ponytail girl, so weird, dirty, yikes!"
" that friend, he is pretending and not in pain"
" that bestie, her clothes and accessories were the reason of my stay"
" that little girl, she will be arrogant when she will grow up"
That little child, he will be better off as an engineer in life"
"So many trivial things, why to waste time on this"
But altogether, i remember that 'he' was not a terrorist but an honest man
'She was plain but never lived life in vain'
'She wasn't above you, just wanted a friend'
That uncle likes to be friend with children who heard your words.
Now they donot trust the man who used to play at their door.
That aunt needs a hug and was not satisfied.
That pedestrian was blind, still he followed your eyes?
That old man, spent his life and never interferred in yours,
The following night he left the world in tears.
That mother who your father disciplined could be you, better your husband do the same!
That father, wrong in many things, was the one who raised you till now.
That ponytail stranger was thrown out of her home, u could have not incresed the burden she was carring around
That friend who was crying with pain, unbearable and shattering him with blood all over his hands
He listened to a friend like you, and quietly spent the night with the wanning moon
That bestie trusted you, she gave you more than materialistic things can do.
That little girl donot even know what does arrogent means,
She was quiet and honest but people used to call her arrogent without a reason for her to be.
That boy did not pick up the screwdriver to be an engineer,
He was holding it like a pen with which he will print the best novels.
So what does that means, trivial things arn't they?
So trivial yet sum up to large, someone ones said
" his name is khan, and he is a terrorist"
So trivial, isn't it?
Trivial for others but when it haplened to u, " i remember ur face in tears,
But honestly i was neither happy nor sad,
I have seen me and you doing the same."

100APC#3 For Kramer

I painted this early last year for my niece, Kramer. She totally rules. We, the family, often call her, Bug, because of her love for lady bugs.
I wanted to challenge myself by drawing things that were less macabre. I have found that potential buyers are much more receptive to soft or cute things. I managed to produce this. This was a labor of love.

Unfortunately my darling niece lives several hours away from me, so I wasn't aware that her love for lady bugs had since passed. Her mother, my sister in law, loved this piece. So I gave it to her for Christmas this last year.

Kramer is one of my heroes. She is smart, beautiful, and extremely competitive. She is not afraid of hard work to achieve excellence. Her sense of kindness, humor, and honor make me proud every day.

Work hard. Work with love in your soul. The rewards will always warm you.

Thanks for reading.

Independence is a state of mind
A way of life
To be internalised and nourished
To make one independent
Of pride and prejudice
Hatred and jealousy
Violence and fanaticism
Fear and false vanity
And all those negative emotions
That make one badly respond
To whims and irrationality
It is beautifully reflected
In what you think
In what you do
How you approach life
And look at others
With whom you interact
With whom you do not
It is an atmosphere
That offers you the best
To be your own self
An opportunity to flower and flourish
And make your dream a reality
It is not a licence
To do anything
You feel like
Is always subject to decency and morality
And other's right to enjoy
The same with all dignity

If I’m asked to point out a prominent Indian poet whose writes in English touch the serious readers of the globe, I’ll have to choose Smruti Ranjan Mohanty as one of the many that I know, He was born on 1st January/1963 at Bamikhal, Odisha ( India). He is an M.A. in Political Science from Utkal University. Though he serves the Govt. of Udisha as a Finance Officer, he keeps on penning beautiful poems, short stories and critical essays in English and Odisha . His writes often appear in various Indian newspapers and journals. No need to say how his beautiful poems enrich the walls of various esteemed poetic groups

The poem that caught my attention while I was going through the writes published on 15th August in the ‘Poetry for Peace’ wall, specially keeping in mind the occasion of the India’s 70th Independence Day celebration was “ A LOOK AT LIFE -21". Instead of writing something on the comment box, I decided to take up the poem for a critical exploration. It is one of the poet’s efforts to look at life too.

On the surface level the poet seems to express his views on the concept of independence. He starts the poem with a simple definition, stating that independence is a state of mind and a way of life. He thinks that one has to be free from false pride, prejudice, hatred, jealousy, violence, fanaticism, fear and vanity if he wants to enjoy the real pride of being independent. An independent man must avoid negative emotions that can easily motivate him to respond to whims and irrationality. What he wants from his countrymen on this auspicious occasion is that they should refine their mental setup and purify their minds in order to feel the real pride of independence. The poet thinks that a man’s interactions with others show how far independent his personality is. It is an atmosphere in which anybody can feel free and homely in fulfilling his dreams. But it is not simply a licence to do anything. It refers to a good citizen’s moralities and responsibilities towards the nation and its people.

There is no hard word or any difficult image in the poem. The poet’s simple approach to the hardest external question on the concept concerned makes the readers feel and internalize its answer. Everybody except the pretenders knows the answer. The problem lies in their approaches to life.

          1.“It is an atmosphere
              That offers you the best
              To be your own self.......”

          2.“It is not a licence
To do anything you feel like
Is always subject to decency and morality”

The trends that the modern poets seem to have set induce the readers to find out what they do not see or understand in the very easy words and expressions they read repeatedly in the poem. I think the greatness of a poet and his poetic world lies in this riddle.

It is my earnest hope that Smruti Ranjan Mahanty will keep on composing great poems for us.
