Being the favourite of my class teacher in class 3rd, I was told by her to learn a Hindi poem she gave to me that was not even in the course book. She had given my name in an elocution contest, and started preparing me how to recite with expressions and modulations in voice and tone. I was a shy kid and reciting in front of the class was so embarrassing for me. Came the big day and I was made to stand on the stage in front of the entire school. I was trembling and looking at the crowd I was tonge tied. The teacher was urging me to start and I was looking at my shoes all red faced. The teacher came in front of me and the audience and asked me to look at her and recite. During the annual prize distribution day I was presented with a book as first prize in Hindi elocution.
