A girl went to buy some sweets At a nearby store--clutching some coins. With a soft voice, she asked the owner For a packet of sweet meats And a cold, cold drink. While slurping a bit of her soda, The lass realized that she was handed More than her supposed change; So, she went to give back the extra money To the woman behind the till. "Ma'am, you handed me more Than what was necessary," she said. The owner was surprised--realized her mistake; Yet, she was also amazed That a youngster could be so well-mannered As to return what wasn't hers by right. So, she thanked the little lassie, profusely; Then, handed over another plastic Of candies and declared, "My dearest, thank you for your honesty. Not everyone would do what you did. As a reward, here is more for you to eat." The little child was so grateful; She dipped and curtsied, respectfully, And ran all the way home-- Planning to share the sumptuous pack With her starving siblings.
