She was holding the guys collar and hurling abuses at him on the street. Me, accompanied by my husband, was on my way to my sister's house. There was a small crowd of five people or so watching this spectacle. The road, fortunately was devoid of traffic. The lady, who was on the heavier side, was using abusive language and spitting on the road every few seconds. The frightened guy, who was at the receiving end, was silently listening to her rants. All of a sudden she lifted her knees and punched his stomach with it. A painful cry left the guy's astounded lips pleading with her to stop. I went closer and enquired with the bystanders the reason for the couple's open ruckus. Before they could answer, another punch followed by a scream, reached my angry ears.

I rushed to the guy's rescue and slapped the woman hard. Just a single slap and she sat on the ground. A collective gasp from the crowd followed and they all rushed to the lady checking up on her. My husband too joined them. The woman gained the crowd's sympathy and they demanded that I apologise. "A female has been manhandled", they cried. My husband pacified them by paying the lady some money and thankfully sent the crowd away. He forcibly pulled me back home, muttering some expletives directed at me under his breath. I suddenly wondered what had happened to that scrawny guy. He had somehow vanished.

On reaching home I was aghast at finding my wallet and the gold chain from my neck missing. Uff. I had been taken for a ride. I looked at my husband. I wouldn't tell him, not now. I thought I had slapped the woman but well, I had been slapped by her..real hard. She had the chain, my wallet and the money that my husband had so generously given her.
