i've always wondered about the significance of RAIN, in so many cultures, all throughout the world. i come from a place, where the rains are as rampant as the days. the climate is, normally, cold. it was always a must to carry an umbrella and wear thick clothing, especially when going out. the danger, brought by heavy rains, was always the possibility of landslides; due to water saturation and eventual erosion. water was always available. a blessing, for us, was a rare sunny day; an occurence, only during summers. it is only now, that i am in a hot and humid area, that i see the benefits of heavy raining. water is a scarce commodity, here in the lowlands. rains are rare. even the monsoon rains don't last long; and typhoons don't really make any significant contribution to water availability. a sudden downpour is always a blessing. children and adults, alike, go out and play under the rain. therefore, i realize that there are certain things that are taken for granted because they are easily available. we only realize their importance when we are forced to live, almost, without. thoughts of rain. #rain #importance #water #prose #yqbaba
