There was something In the way she walked I could

There was something
In the way she walked
I couldn't quite fathom,
Maybe it was the subtle limp
From an accident not long ago
Or the weary smile
From a broken soul

But then she looked at me with a sadness
That broke the silence between
My thoughts
And it painfully dawned on me
That it wasn't anything about her
Rather it was all about me

The disgust written on my face,
Full of ignorance,
My outward perception
Of her shabby dirty clothing
And I understood I wasn't better than them
Who had caused her to endure great pain
