ALONE IN THE CITY - A MURDER STORY
It was 9 pm at night when I reached the station. Alone in the city, hustle and bustle all around, I came outside the station in search for an auto rickshaw. I never prefered night arrivals but I had to unfortunately book for this train since the tickets were not available for the day arrival trains. As I was moving forward, I heard a voice from behind " Madam auto?? I turned back to look him. His get up was like Rajnikant of Basha movie. I didn't felt safe to go but still gathered courage somehow. He helped me to put the luggage and he started the auto. With a very rough tone he asked - "Madam where?" I told him towards the girls hostel. Although it was a 15 minutes journey from station to hostel but the route was a little scary in between with no residences and only dense trees on both the sides. It was almost 9:20pm and the roads were becoming silent. We were half the journey a cop stopped us. The sub inspector did some enquiry with the driver. I was so curious to know what happened as they were stopping all vehicles especially the auto rickshaws. The driver asked the reason for stopping. The police told that a murder has happened and there is a dead body behind the bushes..he pointed towards the big tree beside. He told we got the information that an auto driver has thrown the body here. I was completely in a shocked state. My body was chilled already and imagine at 9 degree cold winter how will be the situation. He asked for the drivers license and other documents. The S. I. asked my details. I told my name, from where I am coming and where I am going to. He asked me to show the college ID card. I showed him. He was gazing it for a long time and said after a pause. Samitha right, I told no it's Smitha. He said "The interrogation will take a lot of time and it's not safe for you to wait like this. I will drop you till the hostel". There was no mobile to contact anyone also. I didn't understood what to do. No other vehicles also to drop me. I had to say yes to him. The police dropped me in his bike at the hostel gate. I was nervous till that time. I felt relaxed when I entered inside the hostel gate. Said thank you to the gentleman and went upstairs to the room. After few hours the warden told I have a call. I came running down stairs to the telephone to attend the call. The call was of the same S. l. (I still remember his name) and to my surprise he started talking nonsense with me and wanted to meet me. That night he might have called 5-6 times. Girls hostel number was easy to get and he already knew my name. He kept calling.. anyone who used to attend the call they used to call me to come and attend. It was the telephone with the coin box. There was no option to block the calls. Every call had to be attended because it might be a call from home of the students. 11 pm at night.. I told him many times don't call me again and I am not interested in meeting you and please don't try to use your police power. If you misuse your power I will get my full army troop to track you. He got a little bit cautious and finally stop calling. He thought I have some connection with the army. However there was a little truth in it since my uncles are all in army. My question was if police only do such acts whom to complain then.
