Yes, my father may have taught me to lie But never

Yes, my father may have taught me to lie
But never to abandon an infant's cries
In the cold, hard grip of a garbage can
I couldn't turn away, I couldn't just pretend

Rescuing her was the only choice
To listen to her tiny voice
With tears in her eyes, she looked to me
And all I could feel was love and empathy

But as I held her close and kept her warm
The whispers started, the judgment swarm
"She must be yours," they said with disgust
As if my actions were fueled by lust

But no, she was a stranger, a child in need
And I couldn't ignore her, I couldn't just leave
My character questioned, my morals attacked
But I did what any decent person would've done, in fact

Yes, my father may have taught me to lie
But he never taught me to turn a blind eye
To the suffering of the innocent and small
I'll always answer their cries, I'll never let them fall.
