THE DECEIVED

My agent had informed me that he had made all the processes of my recruitment abroad from that manpower company. He was former resident of our village, so I had simply trusted him and had handed over the cash he had told were needed. I had managed the cash mortgaging our paternal home, the only asset to our family. I had hardly convinced my dad with the help of the agent.
Time passed but the agent didn't contact me and I didn't get any information from that manpower company either. I tried to contact him with a new number but it was not reachable.
Borrowing some cash amount with our neighbor I caught a night bus to Kathmandu. Hence, the cash was not much sufficient, I took only a cup of tea and had some popcorn brought from home.
Next morning, very hardly I reached the manpower company. The receptionist informed inside. Knowing all about me, the manager told that the agent had not been there for the last two months and except the phone numbers, he had no idea about his stay in Kathmandu. I tried to regain the balance of my sinking heart. I had some doubts about the manager too. So, I decided to wait outside. I sat on a stool at a tea stall near the manpower and waited till 11.00 pm. The agent neither came out nor went inside that made me desperately anxious.
I had to manage for my night stay somewhere as I had not much amount to stay in costly hotels. I had had a biscuit and two cups of tea only. Shivering with cold and hunger I was wandering almost insane. Suddenly a pair of hands pulled me inside a room.
People were enjoying life in that big hall. Some were eating, some were drinking, smoking, talking, laughing, and dancing and so on. There seemed golden glow in each face. The girl who had brought me there came with some food and drinks and smiling sweet, offered me to have them. I was so confused why she was too kind to a stranger. I looked at her. She had worn a heart-shaped tea shirt and a black skirt. I sensed the smell of some delicate perfume from her body and clothes. I looked around; all were busy in their own world. I looked on my table. The food items and drinks were unfamiliar to me. My empty stomach lured towards the soft and doughy food. I hurried to finish them.
After the drinks, I felt sleepy. Before sleeping I noticed a pair of razor-sharp eyes but was helpless. Next morning I woke up in a street near a dirty ditch along with some street dogs. I sprang up recalling the incidents at night and looked for my purse. I found even my wrist watch was missing.
