How I cut out clichés: I place regulations on my writing. It's like a programmed game of conditions: if this is true, proceed; if false, take one step back. I read myself too much. More than I read anyone else. And I read myself like an outsider; if I can relate to the words, if they are explaining my ideas in linear, rhythmic forms in prose (but by the ending, it must be circular; it feels satisfying) in poetry if it's amusing enough, if it's 'conflicting' enough. Conflicting as in, the humour in grieving, the health in narcissism, the nobleness in holding power, flying of water, the annoyance in being fried like a pakora; ideas that are conflicting to the ones we've been fed. Diet. It's not as if only 'unconventional' writing is the best, only you should know if the convention is fragile and breakable enough. An example is that I found out I was overusing the word 'grief', so whenever it was being written by me, it was getting devalued (like printing too many notes to 'run' a failing economy actually rockets you downwards). I thought of a regulation: "I will not use this word this month." It's working. #tipsfromapro 3 (serious for the first time) XD sorry not sorry, feeling like a baba. Byeba.
