I urged her to fling away The rotting vestiges of pain And try the counterpart Of vicious recalling; Yet, she angrily declined My unsolicited concern; Then, she haltingly explained That what I suggested Would be sorely tantamount To the undesired appearance Of an abysmal chasm That would simply fester, Unbeknownst-- Deep within her psyche. It was then that I discerned Why she kept her memories Thriving, despite The discomfort they gave. For, she'd rather face them, Head on, rather than accept The blessed state Of enforced amnesia And pretended ignorance.
