The vines that define usA Poem by Jerry Matthew A

The vines that define usA Poem by Jerry Matthew

As I walk through life one day at a time.
I carefully step trying not to trip on the vines.
Not literally but emotionally and mentally.
The vines that tie you down defining you as a man
Set by the people around you to hold you back from growing to hold you down like a rose in a garden of weeds.
The vines that define who you love and how you love.
They set themselves with beautiful flowers blooming to attract you. They lay in wait trying to grasp an unsuspecting passerby. Saying come close take just one look, but only one look and you want more. Then their beauty is all you see hypnotized by the delusion of what beauty is supposed to look like, but just cut into that vine take a look inside it would start oozing with disgusting poison. Beauty is never defined by what's on the outside, but what's on the inside really counts.
The vines that define what position you hold in life.
These vines run on the ground trying to hold you down as low as possible, whispering hurtful comments in your ear breaking you down to your lowest, where your too weak to fight back eventually to die knowing that you were stagnant as life moved around you, knowing that you didn't try to raise yourself off the ground. Cut free from these vines block your ears and move on.
So keep walking through life one day at a time and stay clear of the vines that define us because they are not who we are #vines
