"There's a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother's story, because hers is where yours begin."
- Mitch Albom

Coming from a society where child adoption and being a single woman after a certain age was frowned upon, Amita Marathe from Pune made a tough call when she registered with the Child Adoption Resource Authority. An MBA in Finance, she was at the peak of her career at the time. Finally, one day in 2013, her phone rang inviting her to a child care centre. In her application, she had asked for a girl child and was ready to take home a daughter. But life had other plans!

None of the girls in her list were available that day. However, there was a 5-month-old girl with a heart defect, who was up for adoption. Even though Amita wanted a child who was at least a year old so that she could balance her career, she could not resist love at first sight when she laid eyes on the baby and saw her "majestic" eyes. She named the baby Advaita and gave her the best medication available. Her career took a back seat and for the next 3 years, Advaita was her only priority. 😇
