'Hey chits, shall we try some matrimonial sites?' That was girija my sis-in-law who had recently married my brother, asking me every other day. I was into my forties and had made peace with my single status. 'Well, why not have some fun?' I questioned myself and we started logging onto every matrimonial site that seemed perfectly okay. I was a bank officer and my preferences included a good education with a well paid job. Relationship status wasn't an issue.

The search for and emails to prospective grooms was a lot of fun. I got good responses and zeroed in on a guy with reliance, I mean working for the ambanis in a senior position. Soon mobile numbers were exchanged and the texting began. He had got my attention and I realized I was getting hooked to his wit. I was taken in by his flowery talk. He was eager to hear me express my love for him. Was I in love? I couldn't think but yes, just a few days into this texting thing and he compelled me to say 'I love you.' We hadn't even met each other. Neither had we exchanged our photos. Wasn't I being foolish? A day later he informed me that he was married and would soon be divorcing his wife. This news shook me. My first setback. Yet I liked him. But why couldn't he have come clean earlier? He expressed his desire to meet me and explain everything in person. My sis-in-law said she would speak to him asking him to first meet her coz he could well have been a fraudster. I was okay with it. But as fate would have it, she had to go abroad on some official work. I asked him for his foto. He obliged and I sent him mine. Oh no! No smile on a face which was full of small pox scars. Well, love isn't all about looks, right? Indeed a huge setback to my romantic musings.

Anyways, I wanted to meet him and finish this off once and for all. I did not inform anybody and went alone. The meeting happened at a five star hotel's restaurant. I tried to make myself look unappealing and succeeded. My first date and the most boring one ever. During the course of our conversation, I realized that he needed an arm candy for parties and maybe more too, considering he placed a premium on good looks. The dislike was evident on his face. We parted ways. The texting stopped. My final text to him 'Someday, love will well and truly mark your end'
