EARLY DINNER - A SHORT STORY

Old habits and die hard and his father's DNA was strongly present in him. Times have changed. Jointly family system became a thing of the past. Nuclear family was the new thing. He started contacting like minded people and started organizing 'Baithaks' similar to the ones his father used to conduct. He found it very difficult to get genuine people with genuine interests. Whoever was interested was too tied up with their family responsibilities . Biswas could understand as he was also married. Luckily, his wife always believed in the values of a Joint Family system.

The Weekly Friday Baithaks continued for weeks after weeks. It  started exactly at 7 pm and went on for about 3 hours. More people started to join and he used to serve them with some tea and snacks while enjoying the Ghazals and Classical compositions.

Mr. Biswas came from an illustrious family of connoisseurs of Hindustani Classical music. Every evening their house transforms into a mehfil where many local singers and connoisseurs get together and spend many hours till late night or even early morning next day singing and enjoying. 

Mr. Biswas's father, a passionate connoisseur but he could never sing. His strength was his intense passion and very deep understanding about music, its systems, history and nuances. So everyone respected him as a Guru. As it was joint family, food, drinks and needs just happened. All of the members had tasks cut out for him or her to do. Biswas grew up in that kind of environment.

However, times  changed, guests got reduced, his parents passed away. As there was no other reason for him to stay back, he moved to Kolkata and continued his studies.
