I am not a believer. People die, and death is final. I don't believe that a doctor who saved your life is a God sent angel or that a candle blowing off in a room without windows signifies the presence of spirits. But loss, you see, drives you to do things you never thought you would. I held your hand as you took your last breath in that dreadful ICU. And as much as I try to convince myself of the opposite, it still feels as though I saw you leave. As though I felt your soul being torn away from your flesh. Every cell in my body wants to fight it. Because I, am not a believer. But I feel you. You're gone, but I still feel you. I feel you as I unlock the door to my 'house', that was once our home. I feel you as I sip coffee sitting on the kitchen slab, just the way I did when you used to cook dinner on Friday nights. Talking for hours. Laughing, fighting, being together. Maybe it is the feeling of not having anyone to complain about all my stupid problems to. Or maybe it is not having the comfort of talking to someone about the most random things at 01:45 a.m. But all I know is that every time the candle blows off in the kitchen when the window is closed, I feel you. ©Chirag Lamba
