#30. WINGS of FIRE by Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam (Autobiography & Inspirational) - One of my most favourite book.

1. Philosophy: The Open Society and Its Enemies of Karl R. Popper. Although those are two Volumes (I and II) the topic is the same. In the first Volume Karl Popper makes a brilliant analysis of ancient philosophers (Plato and Aristotle in particular) and how they influenced our culture till those day. In the second Volume Popper focuses on Hegel and Marx and how they influenced modern times ideologies. Although Popper is the only modern philosopher with a scientific approach the open society is a harsh critique to how those philosophers’ interpretation of the world lead eventually to the birth antidemocratic ideologies. Believe me when I say that this is one of the most mind-blowing texts ever written. In addition Popper’s style is very simple and captivating.

how did it change my life? Popper is one of the first philosophers which look at other philosophers with a skeptical eye. Once you read Popper you realize that also Plato and Aristotle were men and as such they made mistakes. Therefore, you don't take anything for given anymore.

2. Neuroscience:  Soft-Wired How the New Science of Neuroplasticity can change your life – Dr. Michael Merzenich PHD. This book is going to open your mind on how our brain actually works. You will see many myths that you believed true throughout your life bust in the pages of “Soft-Wired”. The book is brilliant since it explains the new scientific findings but also how to improve your life through neuroplasticity. It is really a guide on how to live.

how did it change my life? Adter reading Soft-wired my belief system shifted. I no longer believed to be a fixed individual. In other words I realized that DNA plays a dismal role compared to life and experience. And if you are willing to put the effort you can change yourself at any time in life. Empowering!

3. Non-Fiction: The Black Swan – Nassim Nicholas Taleb

Taleb is going to open your eyes on many topics and human biases. If you read this book carefully, eventually you will understand things about yourself and society in general that you did not notice before.

how did it change my life? It made me realize how humans are biased. Join the modern skeptics!

4. Fiction – The Divine Comedy – Dante Alighieri

Absolutely the best work ever written by any account. Dante Alighieri mixes fiction (he travels through hell, purgatory before reaching heaven) with history. Indeed in this fantastic journey he encounters many historical figures. His guide throughout this spiritual journey will be the Latin author Virgil that he defines as great master.

how did it change my life? Reading Dante is like going back in time and meeting many of the greatest ancient authors and mythological characters. It makes you discover a world that you did not have idea existed. Enlightening!

5. Autobiographies: Anwar El Sadat: In Search of Identity an Autobiography.

The amazing, inspiring and heroic personality, Sadat (former Egyptian president eventually assassinated) tells his story that seems more a tale than a real story. Sometimes reality exceeds fiction and this is one of those cases.

how did it change my life? Sadat story gave me strength. We realize that our everyday challenges are nothing compared to the ones Sadat had to face throughout his life.

Book Of Destiny
When I was a kid,
My father used to tell me,
About the stories of success and destiny,
& I was to young to understand,
What the word "Destiny" means,
And on asking about it my father replied that destiny means fixed future,
That made me fascinated,
And one day while telling me some more stories,
He mentioned about a book,
"Book Of Destiny" is its name,
Now,I don't why it sounded so cool to me,
But,that made me more fascinated about it,
I kept making grandiose fantasies about that chimara,
And,kept on finding it at every possible place,
So,after applying bone breaking effort,
When,I was unable to find it.
I went back to my father,
& simply asked,"Dad,where will that Book Of Destiny can be found?"
And,my father don't want me to know about it,
Before my age of understanding about it,
So,he simply smiled at me,
Saying,"my child just keep on searching and one day you'll find it out way soon."
So,after getting an unsatisfactory answer I returned to my room & made a wish to get this book,
From that day,I kept trying and praying for that book,
And,when I came to my +1 and chosen my stream,
My dad gifted me a book named as"Book Of Destiny"
After getting this dream as a present,
I eagerly opened it and found nothing,
It was just a blank diary,
Which was just named as BOOK OF DESTINY,
and after that extreme level of joy,
I found complete disappointment,
But,the words of my father after giving me that present confused me more,
That this is your very owned Book Of Destiny,
So,I started searching for it again,
& after 2 years of efforts,
I, found my Book Of Destiny,
Yes,it was that diary which my father gave to me,
& I found this fact too,
That this is not a book,
Its just a diary which will be blank,
Till, you write your words of destiny in it,
& at the end of this diary,
You'll definitely find you very owned one...

Book Review #1
.
Name of the book: The Dancing Shoes
Author: Rachael MacBean
Publisher: Pauline Publication (2007)
Price: INR 20
Pages: 48 (Paperback)
Genre: Fiction
My Rating: 4/5
.
About the book:-
The Dancing Shoes is a collection of six short stories.
1. The Dancing Shoes
2. Little Angel And Bright Star
3. The Prettiest Christmas Tree
4. A Doctor For Santa
5. The Old Mountain Woman
6. John's Wormkin
.
My personal experience and opinion:-
This book is a rare combination of moral values and recreation. All the stories depict the harsh realities of life. The lesson 'The Prettiest Christmas Tree' reminded me of the famous proverb "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". The plot revolves around the little joys of our lives that we cherish forever. Moreover, the story of 'glow worms' kept me hooked to the book till the end. The main characters of all the short stories had a lasting impact on me. The book has been written in an extremely lucid manner which makes it easier to understand.
.
Recommendation:-
I would definitely recommend this book to the children as they will enjoy reading it for sure. The best part of this book is that it facilitates the teachers and parents in imparting value education to the children at a tender age to stimulate their holistic development.
Happy reading!

Book Review: The Hard Thing about Hard Things

I recently read this book
#HardThingsAboutHardThings by #BenHorowitz  - It took me quite sometime to finish the book, not because I had lack of time or the book was too long, but because of the depth of the book.
I kept on reading what all he goes through, and kept on connecting to my days in DEN Snapdeal TV-Shop (JV between Snapdeal & DEN), a business where I joined as Marketing lead before it began and what all it went through before I decided to quit & start Nojoto.
I guess its easy to decide to start a business, and honestly sounds pretty fun at the beginning, but few things like constant Focus on the goal, pressure from Team + Investor + Seller and of course consumer is too much that people break apart.
Ben Horrowitz is brutally honest about what he's been through in the book and poured all his heart and that's what makes the book interesting, and at times keeps you thinking - what I would have done, had I been in his place.
I guess, the thing is not tech, not marketing, not sales or any other skillsket or a expertise makes a CEO great, but the constant hunger to improve & move ahead irrespective of failures.
I strongly recommend this book to first time, second time or any one who has an interest in building a
#Business or understanding how stuff is run.

#experiencehyundai
As I have already mentioned elsewhere, Hyundai strategists are serious about other issues that are important for the
#nation, and sometimes, the world.
Their dry wash vs wet wash option at their service stations was launched on the 5th of June last year and has saved 4 million litres of
#Water so far. The #jalbachakechal recommends a dry clean up of the exteriors that not only saves water but is done with chemicals that are #environmentally friendly as well.

They then have a "be the better guy" campaign that helps spread a message on road safety.

Talking of road safety, Hyundai has a unique DIY initiative where they inform the 55 percent FTCOs (first time car owners) all about the vehicle, basic maintenance tips,
#Driving tips, safety #tips, and other helpful tips.

I wasn't really surprised to discover that
#Hyundai officials understand the important role of a strong and vibrant #digital strategy, establish meaningful associations with users and potential buyers through all possible social media platforms, and thus have an immersive brand story going on seamlessly.
I believe that car companies that have internet friendly employees and policies, appreciate the good work done by bloggers, and have a healthy interactive presence on the
#SocialMedia, are the ones who will be ahead in any #Race today.
