White والٹر سمر فورڈ، جسے اکثر "کائنات کا بدقسمت ترین انسان" کہا جاتا ہے، نے غیر معمولی بدقسمتیوں کا سامنا کیا۔1918 سے 1936 کے درمیان، اُس کا چھ بار آسمانی بجلی سے ٹکراؤ ہوا ۔ پہلی بار آسمانی بجلی اُس پر 1918 میں گری مگر وہ زندہ بچ نکلا ۔ چھ سال کے عرصے یعنی 1924 تک وہ آسمانی بجلی کے مہلک ٹکراؤ سے تین بار سامنا کیا اور وہ ہر بار زندہ بچ نکلا۔ 1930 میں اس کا چوتھی بار سامنا بجلی سے ہوا ۔ آخری اور مہلک وار 1932 میں ہوا جو اُس کے لئے جان لیوا ثابت ہوا ۔
مگر بات صرف زندگی تک محدود نہیں رہی۔ اُسکے مرنے کے بعد چھٹی بار آسمانی بجلی 1936 میں اُسکی قبر پر گری۔ حیرت انگیز بات یہ ہے کہ بار بار آسمانی بجلی سے ٹکرانے کے باوجود، سمر فورڈ کی کہانی نے صرف ان کی بدقسمتیوں کے لیے ہی نہیں بلکہ اُس کی صورتحال کی نہ قابلِ یقین خوش قسمتی کے لیے بھی شہرت حاصل کی کہ وہ کیسےہرباربچ جاتا۔ ان کے ان حقیقی تجربات نے قسمت، تقدیر اور زندگی کی بے ترتیبی پر بحث کو جنم دیا، ہمیں کائنات کے عظیم منصوبے میں موقع اور بقا کے درمیان نازک توازن کی یاد دہانی کراتے ہیں۔

For years I had you hidden
And during those years
I filled you with my thoughts
All of my hidden tears

Many years of memories
Have been written inside you
You kept my papers in order
Together beside you we grew

All of my secrets and ideas
And my notes I never shared
You made them safe for me
Things that I would not dare

You were beside me every step
Taking all that my mind bared
And you kept my thoughts quiet
About stuff that I cared

Now I display you proudly
My thoughts now open, and
You stuck beside me since day one
Things I wrote to help with coping

I thank you binder for all you have done
I look forward to many more years
Of you being one of my best friends
Quietly you held my biggest fears
