Once Lord Shiva - the Destroyer, wondered, what would happen if he destroys himself, then the universe would require no destroyer, and hence, the Creator (Lord Brahma) and the Protector (Lord Vishnu) would be relieved from their duties. Shiva used his powers against him and turned into Ashes, including Brahma and Vishnu turning into ashes as assumed; that event was thought about as the end of Holy Trinity.
