"She's Safe"

- A Short Story
by #AtTeamFlower It was early morning, when I opened my eyes. The subtle sunrays fell on my face and a few strings of my hair shone. It took me some moments to realise where I was. When I looked around I saw the dolls, kept as they were bought, some on the bed and some- in the cupboard. I saw the plastic chandelier hanging attached to the cradle, with red and yellow balls.

I felt my heart racing fast as I saw her coming into the room. If she could see me, she might would've wondered how similar we looked. She sat on the bed, eyes fixated on the chandelier. Her eyes were dry. I called her, "Mom, mom..." She couldn't hear it maybe. I went to her and put my hands on hers, she didn't move. I called her again, "Mumma"; this time she moved but didn't look at me. She lied down on the bed.

I walked out of the room and went to the kitchen. I saw him looking at the milk in the pan, boiling. "Papa, papa," I called. He turned off the gas and poured the milk in a glass. Beside that glass, there was a bottle with transparent nipple attached to it. Maybe that too was for me. Papa took the glass and went to the bedroom, I followed him.

He called mom but she didn't listen to him either. Her eyes were closed, he kept the glass on a small table and sat down on a corner of the bed. I went to the other side of the bed; mom wasn't sleeping, I could see tears rolling down her nose, then cheeks.
