During my experience in running my startup I realize that one of the utmost important thing you can do is to keep your employees motivated and proactive. A mere button operated employee is as good as no employee. Because these employees who tend not to take work seriously, don't take initiative and wait for instructions always tend to find genuine reasons for not doing work. For example suppose you tell your employee to send important email to client, he will first procrastinate and later when u remind him, automatically the internet would be down, the call won't connect, his computer will hang, electricity will be off, client will be off vacation or client side will have an earthquake or God forbid your building will catch a fire. These people emit an aura of pessimism which makes things like this happen around you. And secretly these employees enjoy this because this way they don't want to do work which you assigned.
