"Life is Good..."
...a short story where nothing happens!

I woke up at 9 by the deafening alarm clock, that I had already snoozed about four times this morning. I was still feeling dizzy as my feet touched the cold marble floor of my room. I came to the lobby and was about to grab my toothpaste and brush and drag myself to the bathroom, when I heard some clamour outside.

Rubbing my left eye to clear my vision, I headed outside out of curiosity. With a silent yawn, I peeped over my side wall. A group of workers on the adjoining construction site, were having a quarrel over something. I stood there for a while to listen, but within few minutes, I could conclude that it was a routine affair and had attracted my attention, only because of the silence of this sunday morning.
Since I was already distracted and had nothing better to do anyways, so I shifted my attention to the birds swinging on a wire, right infront of my gate, just a couple of feet away from me. It was a pleasantly cool February morning with a mild sunshine and fluffy clouds in the sky. As the birds flew away, I came inside and hurried to the bathroom, while my mother shouted from the kitchen, mentioning that the breakfast was ready and I was not!

By 9:45, the breakfast table was all set and my father and me were enjoying the yummy aloo parathas, with sauce and pickle as per our taste. My father, was in fact multitasking at the table...his face was buried in the newspaper headlines, one hand holding a cup of tea, that he sipped from occasionally and the mind focused on how to start a lecture on, me not studying sincerely, yes, I could read the look in those eyes.

As my mind wandered to find some good excuses, a comic strip on the back page of newspaper made me giggle. Thankfully, my mother came yo my rescue, and verbally elaborated the list of chores I had to do, after I finished my breakfast. Holi was around the corner, so she had prepared potato chips, and my task was to take them to our terrace, and spread them on plastic sheets to dry in sunshine. Though it might seem a tedious chore to many, I actually enjoy it.
