DOLL I remember my friend calling me for company,

DOLL
I remember my friend calling me for company,
to be a hand in her doll's marriage ceremony.
We were seven and we hardly knew what marriage really meant,
Her doll was about to marry the one her uncle had sent.
"Give me her jewellery, the groom is waiting!"
She said, but something inside kept me hunting.

"Why do I feel Sara your doll is upset?
Have you asked her will before making the marriage all set?"
" What to ask? It's my decision.
I am her guardian and she is my possession.
'Girls cannot decide', my parents say,
They should always adapt to whatever comes their way"
"But the doll's eyes, you see, are about to shed tears,
She is unwilling to marry, please try to hear!"
" It's nothing my friend, what's the use of delay?
She can neither speak nor hear, it's a doll by the way."
I threw flowers on the doll's marriage that day,
And the same I am about to do again today.
A decade passed, and it's Sara's turn,
to tie the knot and get back the return.
I went to the room where the bride was dressed.
She looked like a beautiful doll heavily jewelled.
But her eyes seemed similar to those of the doll,
whose marriage ceremony was attended by us all.
She called me aside, and said shedding a drop of tear,
"I wish, that day, what the doll said, I could hear.''
