The first partition of Bengal was announced on 1905 July 19 by the viceroy of India
Lord Curzon to divide the Bengal and it was implemented on 1905 October 16 and this day was observed as the day of mourning. This partition was done on the basis of two nation
theory ,which declared Hindus and Muslims as two nations ,entitled to two separate states . Later it consisted of Hindu majority in West Bengal and Muslim majority on in East Bengal. The main cause was to devide Bengal based on religion and language not by population. So that the unity would easily breakdown and conflict will start among people. But they gave the  official reason that   the undivided Bengal with it's huge population  included  west bengal,Bangladesh, Bihar,Jharkhand, Chattishgarh,Odisha,Asam was difficult to manage administratively as single province. Then after they applied the "rule and divide" policy ignoring the public opinion. Because Bengal was the major province in British,India.
