The present generation is the most prosperous, educated and free generation in the history of mankind. Yet, it is also a bitter fact that the present generation is extremely unhappy. The reasons for the present generation to be unhappy are as following: 1: Unrealistic Expectations The expectations of the people of modern generation are extremely high from their parents, teachers, society, their leaders and even from themselves. They spend more time before virtual-world than the real-world. They have more virtual friends than real friends. They know world more from movies than from their experience. They rely more on experts than on their parents and elders. When they compare the real world people with the reel world people like heroes of the movies, they are highly disappointed and frustrated. 2: High Ambition In the earlier times, your upper limit was decided based on your birth. For example, only the son of the king could have been the king and only the son of a merchant could have been a merchant. In today’s world, any person can become anything in his life. Hence, every person wishes to reach on the top while the slots on the top are limited. When people compare with what they could have become and what they are, they feel frustrated. 3: Unlimited Choices Only a generation ago, people had choice of only one TV channel and practically one or two products on each category. Today, you have virtually unlimited choices in everything. When you have too many choices, you get confused and even more frustrated because when you are not satisfied with what you choose, you curse yourself for making the bad choice and feel frustrated. 4: Height of Materialism The modern world is the most materialistic in the history of mankind. It does not matter who you are.
