एक नगर में एक राजा रहता था। राजा जब भी महल से बाहर जाता, हमेशा अपने घोड़े पर ही जाता था। एक बार वह अपने नगर को देखने एंव जनता की समस्याओं को सुनने के लिए पैदल ही भ्रमण पर निकला। उस समय जूते नहीं होते थे इसलिए जमींन पर कंकड़ और पत्थरों के कारण राजा के पैर दुखने लगे। राजा ने इस समस्या के हल के लिए अपने मंत्रियों की एक बैठक बुलाई। ज्यादातर मंत्रियों का यही सुझाव था कि क्यों न पूरे नगर के रास्ते को चमड़े की मोटी परत से ढक दिया जाए। लेकिन इसके लिए बहुत सारे धन एंव अन्य संसाधनों की जरूरत थी। तभी राजा के पास खड़े एक सिपाही ने सुझाव दिया कि पूरे नगर को चमड़े की परत से ढकने से अच्छा यह है कि क्यों न हम अपने पैरों को ही चमड़े की परत से ढक दें। इससे न केवल हमारे पैर सुरक्षित रहेंगे बल्कि ज्यादा धन भी खर्च नहीं होगा। सिपाही का सुझाव सुनकर राजा प्रसन्न हुआ और उसने सभी के लिए “जूते” बनवाने का आदेश दिया। ©Kunal A king lived in a city.
