आपको मानवता में विश्वास नहीं खोना चाहिए। मानवता सागर के समान है; यदि सागर की कुछ बूँदें गन्दी हैं, तो पूरा सागर गंदा नहीं हो जाता।
English: You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.
– महात्मा गांधी (Mahatma Gandhi Quotes in Hindi)
Every morning as I walk to school through the dark blue decrepit world, I feel like I’m coming down with the flu. By the time I reach the school, my entire body is depleted as if I have spent the night in chills, reabsorbing the damp excreting from my own pores. I am always excreting something. My ex-boyfriend noticed it. He would ask why I was always cold and sweating, why I was always at war with myself. When he licked the excretions off my body, I would ask myself, Is this a life? He used to say dirty things to me like, Desubjectify me, bitch. The way he fucked was senseless and crazy. I don’t get fucked like that anymore. As a teacher I am not getting fucked and the children can tell. Some of the children are teenagers and menstruating and ejaculating. They have no control over their excretions and, in that way, perhaps we’re all alike. Sometimes they talk to me as if I’m a nun. No, little children, I’m not a nun. I never was. There are people where I am standing, outside the school’s entrance. I am waiting to open the door. I encounter someone’s father. He has a cord of wood strapped to his back. How are you, Maya’s teacher? No, how are you? Then a different father holds the door open for me. Go on in, he says. I have always hated people’s families and fathers. The school is inside what used to be an American legion hall. It’s an open space the size of a gymnasium with hundreds of chairs organised in circles and two offices and practice rooms and closets. Some of the children are huddled in clumps on the floor like mounds of peanut shells. The peanut shells are listening to the Notorious B.I.G. I touch the handle of the teachers’ bathroom. There is one adult bathroom for thirty adults. The sweat on my skin dries and leaves a thin film. The door is locked. A phone is ringing somewhere. I wait patiently. I am filled with
I would say wonderful
I have gone to Europe, US, Canada etc
One of the interesting experience, I would like to share here.
I was traveling to America
I went to Georgia State, Holly springs.
I heard that this state is the most racist place in America. ’N’ word could be thrown around just like nothing. I heard that they hate outsiders and KKK white supremacist zone.
Now this didn't bother me since I don't believe anything that US's mainstream media suggest. So I wanted to experience everything with my own eyes.
So I realised people are little apprehensive about foreigners but that happens everywhere. So they don't necessarily go out of their little town hence they don't have much clue about the rest of the world.
I was experiencing the local scene just like every other Tourist. But I didn't stay in any hotel. Instead I lived with one family as they had extra rooms. They had a big house. They let me stay when I offered some money and it was cheaper and they needed some extra money
I was in my late teenage years.
Mark Hobbs was the name of that middle age man. He was a middle age gentleman. He was a factory worker which is shut down now.
Obviously, as expected they had a lot of stereotype ‘third world cow everywhere snake charmer dirty' idea about India :D
At first it was little difficult but within 2 days, we became friends. He introduced me to his wife Sarah, his boy Kodi and Maggie.
Maggie was 13 years old and Kodi probably was 2 years junior of me.
We talked, I entertained them with my jokes(I know quite a few of them), we got closer
They told me, “I am a smart young man”
They helped me to see more wonderful places in Holly springs (There's a lot of them)
I even had dinner with Hobbs family.
In the end, we became very good friends. We shared the common conception that how American media vilify town people into bigot and racist etc
I said to him, "Not just American village people, American media stereo type and vilify Indians too with half knowledge"
I invited him to Kolkata, he came in 2013 with his whole family. I showed him around India. He was mesmerised. By the way, I didn't show them those stupid places in India that guide tend to show about India which further more develope stupid ideas about India among foreigners instead I showed them mordern India.
They really enjoyed their time in Kolkata.
We still talk from time to time in social media. They completely changed their perception about India when they left India.
I later got to know from my American friends that family is direct members of KKK and yet I didn't find them anything other than ordinary lovely people.
Now if this isn't wonderful unforgettable than what?
