नवीन आलेली मोलकरीण बाई काम आवरून निघणार इतक्यात बाईसाहेब करड्या आवाजात म्हटल्या; अगं; तुझी जात कोणती ? तशी ती नजर खाली घालून, पदर सावरत, दबक्या आवाजात उद्गारली जी.... "**- ***". बाईसाहेब कुत्सित नजरेने पाहून आतल्या खोलीत गेल्या. ती मोलकरीण ही निमूटपणे घरी परतली. दुसऱ्या दिवशी ती पुन्हा आली कामावर. अगदी जीव ओतून मनापासून धुणी - भांडी आवरली. अन् फरशी पुसायला घेतली. सगळा जीव ओतून फरशीला चिकटलेले डाग ती काढू लागली. तिच्या प्रयत्नांना यश आले. फरशी चकाकू लागली. आज तिला बाई साहेबांकडे कामाला येवून बहात्तर दिवस झाले. तरीही ती घरी परतताना उद्विग्न मनाने, काहीसा त्रागा करत, स्वतःशी बडबडत होती की... . . . बाईसाहेबांच्या मनाला चिकटलेले 'डाग' तसेच आहेत. ( भारत देशाला स्वातंत्र्य मिळून बहात्तर वर्षे झाली म्हणे! ) #secular
