March is Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a physical disability. It is a permanent life-long disability. It is due to damage to the brain; occurring before, during, or shortly after birth. Cerebral Palsy affects people in different ways. There are no two cases of Cerebral Palsy alike. Cerebral Palsy affects body movement, muscle control, muscle coordination, muscle tone, reflex, posture and balance. People who have Cerebral Palsy may also have issues with seeing, learning, hearing, speech, epilepsy and eating. There is no known cure for Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy can affect only parts of the body or can affect the whole body. Some people living Cerebral Palsy may use a wheelchair, walker, crutches, or cane. Some may walk independently with a unique gait. Some people living with Cerebral Palsy may use a device as their voice, may have their speech affected, or may talk with no difficulties at all. Cerebral Palsy is NOT contagious. Cerebral Palsy can NOT be pass down through genetics. Cerebral Palsy does NOT equal to "no quality of life." Cerebral Palsy is NOT a curse. Cerebral Palsy does NOT affect the ability to love and to be loved. Cerebral Palsy does NOT affect the abilities to dream, think, feel, fear, or want.
