Stepping into new Era doesn't make you modern, the way Modernization is acknowledged nowadays. Modernization is understanding other's perception, being non-judgemental, respecting one's decision and solitude. Being classy and traditional is modern, not being royal. Modernization doesn't come with new Era and new generation. You are modern by your thoughts, no matter which Era you belong. Modernization is abstract, purely the act of mind(thoughts) not a physical thing to show off.
