SOMETHING I LOOK AT-102
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

DYING A DEATH

Oh my near and dear!
don't stretch my life
beyond nature's favour.
When death is a certainty,
why are you so reluctant
to accept the reality?
When hours and days are numbered
of what use adding a few more?

My body never listens to what i say,
my mind is not with me, somewhere else.
I am not the same I was,
the battle is over, yet to fight the war.
How long you will stretch my life and what for?
Is a body having very little in it
going to serve you and your purpose anymore?

Don't drag me to the icy,
I don't want to languish in pain
waiting for a death so difficult to come by.
I lived life to the full,
let me live my last days as I wish
with all that I loved and lived with.
In open air and bright sunlight
let me take my last breath
in the midst of kith and kin,
take the last few steps
slowly and silently and feel the moment
that stands between life and death.

Don't put me on a ventilator,
I never want to lie motionless
enduring all the pain that comes my way,
silently suffering with none of my friends
hands and legs, eyes and ears to stand by.

Imagine life on life supports,
how horrible it is with organs after organs
failing leaving me to witness my trusted friends dying one by one making me the sole survivor to endure the pain and agony
with a few drops of tears oozing out of my eyes.

My dear!
death is a peaceful transition from
one state of consciousness to another,
our ignorance, desire and attempt to stretch it make it unnatural,
unbearable, sad and pathetic.
If you love me, let me die as such
with the cool breeze and bright sunshine drenching the whole of me.
Let me bid farewell
to my beautiful world where I was loved and betrayed, smiled and cried, lived the whole of my life in hope and despair.

SOMETHING I LOOK AT-100
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

Short of words to explain the man he was,
my teacher and father late Raj kishore Mohanty

Happy and contented he was.
No looking back, no regrets
for what he had not done,
what he had not accomplished,
no wishes except a desire
for a calm and peaceful end
to his serene and beautiful life.

No complaint against life.
Nothing against anyone
A life surrendered at the feet of his guru,
a life lived for his students,
for their wellbeing and betterment.

He loved his students,
loved going miles on his bicycle
to see his students smile, to solve
their problems, to be with them
when they are in need.

Never ran after any other identity.
A teacher he was, a born teacher
that was the only identity he had.
For him there was hardly any difference
between his own kids and
the students he took care.
A son had to elevate himself to
the level of a student to know
what his father actually was.

For him veda is mathematics
and mathematics is veda
life is death in motion
and death is life in motion
and one can live and enjoy both
if one has the will to do so.

Till the very end
lived life to the full,
spreading the messages of his guru,
working for the triumph of humanity,
inspiring others to live and let live .
Enjoyed his death while in sleep,
passed to the other side of consciousness
with head high and a smile on lips,
proving his own saying,
one can enjoy death the way
one enjoys life
if the surrender is complete.

A LETTER TO THE ALMIGHTY

When the body betrays,
mind feels alienated,
hands and legs do not listen to what I say,
eyes see a little, ears hardly hear,
when my blood consider me as a burden,
I remain no one's concern
my own, not prepared to take care,
hesitate to carry the person
who carried them all along,
when there is none with me except
an unknown person,
when attending me becomes a compulsion,
where remain very little feeling and emotion,
when my pain and agony is at the pick,
the attitude of others strongly prick
distress and sorrow too much to endure.
life becomes a burden, too much to bear
Come my Lord! touch me, be with me,
hold me, hold my hand, bring me safely ashore.

My Father,
I lived a life far away from You,
a life lived in guilt,
in pursuit of passion.and ambition.
A life wasted in running after Your riches and spellbinding grandeur,
in gratifying my senses,
geed, ego and selfishness.
I lived in a pseudo world with pseudo people,
thought satisfaction of senses,
life and its privileges as the ultimate

But my Lord! You are always in thought,
not even for a minute l lost sight of You
and Your name always been on my lips,
when awake and in my senses.
Wherever I had been, heaven or hell,
I invariably took You with me and never hided anything and my sins and virtues lay bare before you.

My Lord!
I accept my omissions and commissions.
But in this world of fading colours,
my love, passion, longing and feeling for You never lost its texture and I remained,
all through a loving son of Yours.
My Father!
I am not asking for anything else
Just do me a favour.
When my soul leaves the body,
be their in front, show me the way, guide me to the destination as You have been doing all along.
Let me leave this world chanting Your name,
let me embrace what people say death with a smile on lips, looking at your resplendent glaze, slowly coming out of the haze, losing me in You, in Your infinite bliss and consciousness.
