Vanity is a sin. But when you pay for it, And people makes money out of you, That makes it a virtue. Some redemptions are in the sinning itself... ©Lakshmi Menon Vanity is no longer a sin #vanity #Pamper

I am... The conceit you see in the mirror, The megalomanic you have become. You care about your appearance, About your very many accomplishments. You love none, but yourself, So much so your love for yourself, Is stronger than the hate your family has for you. They have all left you, Except I. Your faithful friend, Loyalty, thy name is vanity... ©Lakshmi Menon Loyalty, thy name is vanity #vanity #narcissiticattitude

Survival is primary need of humans. After the survival needs are met, we are supposed to ponder on higher realities including our own existence. However illusion plays it well, by bringing additional elements of, never ending luxuries, accumulation of power and other vanities. We keep chasing them and forget the essential!! ©Prem Anand Nallathambi #Human #survival #existence #Realities #vanity #Illusion

Avoid being enslaved by the material bounty of this world. In fact, let go of assumed treasures and be generous To those who have less and who have nothing. For, not a soul has gained a place in God's eternal garden By being a powerful king in this temporal realm. "Vanity" One time, I asked my mom about the real definition of vanity. She said vanity, for its spiritual definition, means giving too much importance to anything that isn't good or God-like. Hence, it doesn't only refer to too much love of oneself (and one's appearance) but of all things temporary and inconsequential. (c) Pinterest Photo. #vanity #diwa #yqbaba

shave all the extras; remove all the baggage that doesn't matter, anymore; knowing that, even without the extra layers of vanity--of luxurious accessories--you're still you and you're still whole. #shave #vanity #you #whole #yqbaba

KNOW THE POET AND PEEP INTO HIS POEM ********************************************************* Smruti Ranjan Mohanty and His Poem “ A LOOK AT LIFE-21 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, By Bipul Ch.Kalita ............................. The Text .............. A LOOK AT LIFE-21 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Independence is a state of mind A way of life To be internalised and nourished To make one independent Of pride and prejudice Hatred and jealousy Violence and fanaticism Fear and false vanity And all those negative emotions That make one badly respond To whims and irrationality It is beautifully reflected In what you think In what you do How you approach life And look at others With whom you interact With whom you do not It is an atmosphere That offers you the best To be your own self An opportunity to flower and flourish And make your dream a reality It is not a licence To do anything You feel like Is always subject to decency and morality And other's right to enjoy The same with all dignity copyright@smruti ranjan 15.08.2015 If I’m asked to point out a prominent Indian poet whose writes in English touch the serious readers of the globe, I’ll have to choose Smruti Ranjan Mohanty as one of the many that I know, He was born on 1st January/1963 at Bamikhal, Odisha ( India). He is an M.A. in Political Science from Utkal University. Though he serves the Govt. of Udisha as a Finance Officer, he keeps on penning beautiful poems, short stories and critical essays in English and Odisha . His writes often appear in various Indian newspapers and journals. No need to say how his beautiful poems enrich the walls of various esteemed poetic groups The poem that caught my attention while I was going through the writes published on 15th August in the ‘Poetry for Peace’ wall, specially keeping in mind the occasion of the India’s 70th Independence Day celebration was “ A LOOK AT LIFE -21". Instead of writing something on the comment box, I decided to take up the poem for a critical exploration. It is one of the poet’s efforts to look at life too. On the surface level the poet seems to express his views on the concept of independence. He starts the poem with a simple definition, stating that independence is a state of mind and a way of life. He thinks that one has to be free from false pride, prejudice, hatred, jealousy, violence, fanaticism, fear and vanity if he wants to enjoy the real pride of being independent. An independent man must avoid negative emotions that can easily motivate him to respond to whims and irrationality. What he wants from his countrymen on this auspicious occasion is that they should refine their mental setup and purify their minds in order to feel the real pride of independence. The poet thinks that a man’s interactions with others show how far independent his personality is. It is an atmosphere in which anybody can feel free and homely in fulfilling his dreams. But it is not simply a licence to do anything. It refers to a good citizen’s moralities and responsibilities towards the nation and its people. There is no hard word or any difficult image in the poem. The poet’s simple approach to the hardest external question on the concept concerned makes the readers feel and internalize its answer. Everybody except the pretenders knows the answer. The problem lies in their approaches to life. 1.“It is an atmosphere That offers you the best To be your own self.......” 2.“It is not a licence To do anything you feel like Is always subject to decency and morality” The trends that the modern poets seem to have set induce the readers to find out what they do not see or understand in the very easy words and expressions they read repeatedly in the poem. I think the greatness of a poet and his poetic world lies in this riddle. It is my earnest hope that Smruti Ranjan Mahanty will keep on composing great poems for us.
