The amihan cools my raging fire As I sit here near the dried-up mire; I breathe in the woody, evening smoke Created by harried housewives, Preparing family dinners In their little dirty kitchens, outside; I watch their children speed along In a kaleidoscope of mountain bikes, Gleaming with newly oiled tires-- Their voices, a cacophonous chorus Of spontaneity and undisguised glee. Autumn commences another wait As the reliable crickets and cicadas Drown out the raucous sounds of cars From that busy highway by the bay; You're about to arrive, my love, And I'm still deliberating on the words That I'm compelled to utter, tonight.
