Village Life A LOOK AT LIFE-93 BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY REAPING THE CONSEQUENCE I am suffering for what I have done I will suffer for what I am doing right now That is how life moves on That is the law from which There is no exception. If I seek an answer. To my present condition The caprices of nature I have to go back to the palaeolithic age Where I was roaming in the forest Under the sun, shower and blue sky Sharing my smile and tears, love and hatred With plants, animals and nature I have to go back to the time When I was so helpless amidst Mighty animals and unpredictable nature I was coexisting with plants and animals Sharing my moments with them and Was at the feet of nature, worshipping and Adoring her as my lone saviour I have to go back to the days When I started manipulating the environment To have an edge over others I grew and developed at their cost But never cared for them Never carried them with me all along I went on manipulating Nature, natural resources and Become the boss of the world For me, nothing but my own happiness mattered I used and exploited plants, animals and nature For my own satisfaction. And forgot that the world is as much theirs As it is mine I forgot those with whom I once shared the World, my moments of ecstasy and frustration And considered them as prey to my Unquenched thirst and hunger The gap between me and them increased Further and further to a point no reconciliation When I considered myself to be the God The maker of their destiny The existence of whom depends upon My will and mercy. After years of exploitation and subjugation When they react I call it ferocity of nature I have set standards of my own Which is not the same for all I am not prepared to accept Whatever the situation today Is due to the imbalance Resulted out of my own greed, Undoings and selfishness My deaf and dumb friends ( I have made them so) Do not know How to communicate with an inhuman being They silently suffer, occasionally react But when they react, they react violently And I have to bear it, its wrath and ferocity. For every action, there is a reaction Which I have to silently bear.
