The New Normal These days we wake up with nowher

The New Normal

These days we wake up with nowhere to be,
Dazed and disorientated stumbling from dreams to reality.

Don't know how long we keep staring at our ceilings,
Our heads filled with thoughts of despair, the sense of time losing its meaning.

The gnawing fear of losing the ones we love slowly creeps into our every waking moment,
Playing worst case scenarios over and over, our minds becoming an invincible opponent.

Staying cooped up with a broken family is a new challenge,
Even though words cut deeper wounds they don't leave visible scars to measure the damage.

Some of us wish we didn't have to wake up once the relief of sleep came to the rescue,
But even in that we're plagued with nightmares, our demons bringing our worst horrors true.

We never finish our plates, our appetites lost,
Worrying about our families knowing not all of them will making it out alive, free of cost.

Try as we might, it's impossible to concentrate on even something we love, for too long,
Along with losing touch with the people to whom we belong.

We don't remember the last time we laughed heartily at a joke cracked by our friends,
Smiling seems like a crime when we see the suffering all around that never seems to end.

Aimlessly wandering in our heads trying to salvage what's left of our sanity,
Holding on to memories keeping us tethered from falling into complete insanity.

Everyday we remember a little less of what it was like before all this,
The hope of a normal life slipping from our fingers ceasing to exist.
