Back when I was young And love was just a big bang-bang; Back when everything Was just a stone's throw away And your face was the only happiness That never failed to make my day; Back when I had my smile And my skin was that milky white Of the snow and the effervescent light-- Those were the rainbow days Of easy-peasy lullabies And Mama would hush my cries; Those were the lucid nights Of tender kisses and restful sighs; I was Papa's sweet angel And my little brother's pride; Those memories of frolicsome laughter And gleeful, nonstop rhymes; Those erstwhile yesteryears Of princess plays and flowery pathways, When I was but a babe And naught else could scare me Nor lead me towards This hellish, acheful space. Strings and sounds induce me to listen; To lullabies of auld, quite forgotten. I lay down, gently, in the hammock-- Listening, absorbing the meaning; Of a song, dug up, from long ago. The haunting melody of yore; That speaks of naive gladness-- Of laughing faces and bosom souls; Of tearful gatherings and boisterous years; A wistful reminiscence, of lost links, commence. For though, voyages have differed-- The thew, of ties, have been enfeebled; Rightly persistent, still, are the impressions; Of marked friendships, of yesteryears. The mind may forget; but, the heart doesn't. "Le Souvenir" (The Remembrance) #remembrance #yqbaba
