The Emerald Ring He stood near the ferry, as the moon shined, Beneath the starry sky, clear, and majestic. As he waited with bated breath, the tide, Of memories arose steadily and galloped, As his heart resonated his darkest fears. He looked towards the dark path. Waiting for her to arrive, someone whom, His mind could recall, remember. He remembered the fall, and the rise, As ethereal lights guided him ashore. He saw the silent procession, afar, As they approached the pyre with his body. As his bones were turned to ashes far away, He stood looking at the narrow winding path, The rites were done, the door had opened, To an eternal light, pleasant, calm, fulfilling. He stood unflinching, as the people left, As the Doors of heaven closed on his soul. He waited, his eyes fixed on the narrow path, He saw many walk past, to heaven, to hell, Yet he stood patiently, waiting for years, And then the day came, as she stood, At the ferry, and placed an emerald ring, At the stone etched with their names.
