Day 8: Mahagauri ******************* On the eight day of Navratri (Ashtami), devotees worship Maa Mahagauri, the eight form of Goddess Durga. Mahagauri means extremely white. She's named Mahagauri because of her luminous beauty and radiating body. Also known as Shwetambardhara, she's revered for her purity, serenity and tranquility and is believed to bring an end to the suffering of her devotees. She is also seen as the 16-year-old unmarried form of Goddess Parvati. Worshipping Maa Durga on Ashtami brings prosperity and luck as well as the sins are cleaned. The colour of the day on Ashtami is peacock green, which is a symbol of uniqueness, individuality, compassion and freshness. She is offered coconut as bhog. On this day young girls (kanjak) are invited home, worshipped and fed an auspicious meal as a part of the worship. Puri, Halwa and Kale Chane are prepared as bhog and fed to them. ©Sunita Pathania #navratri #mahagauri #day8 #Kanjak #Ashtami #sunitapathania #Devotional #Nojoto #nojotoapp #nojotoenglish Gyanendra Pandey R K Mishr
