THE EYES THAT STILL LOOKED ALIVE.... (August 25, 2023; 3.00 am) Now I know those phone calls were really precious enough to steal my entire day... Those frequent phone calls which made me sometimes irritated, annoyed were truly a pleasure to remember that person, who made me feel that he really needed to hear my voice atleast 3 times a day. That one person, who told to keep up the way I talked with him with assurance. Not even a single day had passed without a phone call. Those continuous calls was from a man who loved to ride his bicycle where ever he went. No matter what, his bicycle was his best partner to reach any place. It almost looked like his body was made out of steel, being around the age 75. He might have been a bad person in the past, but when I was living with him, he looked after me well always with a beautiful smile on his face, especially his dinner was like a candel light dinner to me. It was hilarious to see how he bent his head down while sitting on a plastic chair, dozing off silently. Then suddenly, he would open his eyes cautiously if he hears any sound while sleeping. Yes, just like some sensitive chat. Years passed, he was a lion who lived bravely in his cave. Yet, then and now, he wouldn't hesitate to pay a visit to my house and always gave some pocket money without a frown on his face. He was also like a friend to me, who listened to me when I complained and he didn't restrict from the way I usually talked with him. Unfortunately, after sometime he fell ill, who became a lone wolf confined to his own habitat. But still, once in a while he paid a visit, while speaking in a rather sarcastic tone, especially to me since I was easily swayed by his words. Days passed, seasons changed and so is he.... His health was not really in a stable condition, and so completely stopped visiting my house. I didn't miss him even one bit!! Because there were more then 6 calls I received from him everyday, just to hear my daily routine such as breakfast, lunch and dinner. But seriously, when I didn't receive any call all so suddenly, I felt kind of out of place that I made a call to him on such days. Sometimes, I just ignored his calls carelessly as I knew that it was always the same questions or things he asked- the thought that made me to think those were unimportant calls. And that's what happened that day too. I was too occupied in watching the anime, that I overlooked the importance of that call. It was the day he gave out his last breath...and I missed the chance to have a final talk with him before his soul left his body. I was too self serving that day which actually got into a huge pit of regret the next day. It was the day of his funeral March. I saw his corpse lying on the floor, which still looked like he was breathing with eyes and mouth open. His body had turned cold when I touched his hand. I felt like he was still alive even moving without an inch. I was a fool, who only got to have her own hallucinations in the end....A real fool who ignored his calls most of the times! It is hard to believe that the man who called me several times a day, is not even going to make a single call anymore. This thought gradually engaged me in pure tears, and what I realised was that this person actually played a big role in my life. I don't care if your soul had left you at 3.00am, for I can still feel your existence even in this heavy air I breathe today. It hurts like some real spikes stuck in my heart, but that is how I am going to remember you for the rest of my life, grandfather. I am glad for some of the recordings of our phone calls that I accidentally did, for it will always make me nostalgic when I hear your grumpy, strange voice forever..... One thing I really wish to have heard is that whether you were happy when we talked over the phone about silliest things that presided in my life. But a single 'YES' would have been enough to take away all this regret I am having right now. "Hey Gramps, I will not say goodbye for I have these beautiful memories and baseless phone calls to perfectly remember the old man I know!" "You might have went to some faraway land, but don't worry....this silly girl is never going to forget you even once as long as her heart beats!!" It's just we are in different places, with our hearts connected somewhere deep along the bridge known as 'bond'. "CAN YOU SEE? YOUR SILLY GRANDDAUGHTER HAS GROWN UP....!!" ©Tiny glowing star!
