माना तू है दूर, फिर भी बहुत पास है,

SOMETHING I LOOK AT-53
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

Books, my love!
my most tangible friend!
you are with me since childhood,
never betrayed me once even,
stood by me in moments of
joy and despair, agony and apathy
consoling and guiding me to my
ultimate destination with mirth and glee

None like you,
none can be
whenever I am in a fix
I look at you
You have answers to all my
vexed questions, a panacea to all my ills.
You carry truth and wisdom from generation to generation
and guide civilisations to its perfection.
You have in you the beauty and fragrance
of the past,
the knowledge of mankind, a road map for the present, a vision of the future
and everything one needs to go ahead
on the path of life
with ease and dignity.

When there was no internet, no television,
no means of communication and radio
was a luxury of the few,
you were there providing me with all the knowledge, wisdom and expertise
and instilled the urge in me
to live life to the full with a purpose, love and passion.

You nourished me all along,
taught me the spirit of tolerance and
compromise, the value of being good
to oneself and others
and made me what I am,
a disciplined man with lots of love
admiration and respect for others.
I never fumbled on the way,
in the manner, I was socialised
the values I inculcated
paved me the way.

Today we have all the modern means
of communication and the whole world
at the doorstep,
but how incomplete and fragile
our socialisation seems to be.
The way we were groomed in yesteryears
with classics like Ramayan and Mahabharat are far different from the
grooming of today's kids with television and internet
which is clearly evident from their attitude
towards life, themselves and others.
In the midst of electronic gadgets
the human touch of the books
sadly missing and sadly missing is
the simplicity of man, his love
concern and respect for others.

The charm of you knows he
who reads you with love and passion.
I will never let you die
my friend!
you are still in the heart of my heart
soul of my soul and will be there
till I breathe my last.

SOMETHING I LOOK AT-26
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

How far away i am
from me and my dreams
miles and miles away my childhood
those glorious days and fascinating nights
mother's lap and father's shadow
the scenic beauty of nature
and fulfilling life

Gone are the days
of carefree life and blissful living
gone is the world
of fairies and ghosts
no more i feel on my head father's hand
and mother's touch
no more i hear that
raining sound in the distant forest
no more i look forward to life and its beauty
no more i play with paper boats
And sail across my dream world
To feel life, its warmth and colours

I long for those moments
the chill winter night
the symphony of ceaseless rain
the never ending stories of grandpa
the flavour of moist soil
sweet aroma of wild flowers
and long bare footed walk to the school
under the scorching heat of sun
and pears of shower

I cherish
that carefree and contented life
the limitless joy i had
when i shared whatever little i had
with each and everyone
die for those moments
which we lived for each other
showering our love and affection
expecting nothing in return

With lantern light
no means of communication
and very little to spend
life was difficult
yet so captivating
and full of colours

With all the comforts
and luxuries
how futile and meaningless
today's life is
with no time for self
love and reciprocation
i feel alien to myself and look
for that real i, the innocent child
lost somewhere in
childhood and its innocence

Here is the critical appreciation of my poem 'SOMETHING I LOOK AT-53' by non other than Prof Cijo Joseph Chennelil, eminent poet and Internationally acclaimed lierary critic in beautiful words. Thanks and gratitude sir for your wonderful words of appreciation

Dear Smruti Ranjaniji

Your poem titled"Something I Look at-53" extols rightly the glory and essence of book reading and its benefits to the yonder sky.Books are to be the constant companions of human beings, they can lead human beings into the world of imagination and aesthetic sensibility. When books are given primary importance in the life of human beings, things become more consolidated and firmed up for us,so that we can confront the daily realities of life with enthusiasm, excitement, pleasure and deeper comprehension. An association with books from childhood days can fill us with wonders and manifold positive possibilities. The books can furnish us with so many advantages such as the infusion of a creative mindset,a humane bent of mind,a lovely discerning attitude towards life in general,a compassionate stance towards fellow human beings,a sensitive mentality,a deep-rooted knowledge regarding various issues concerning the society, the acquisition of well-entrenched wisdom, the farsighted inclination towards various matters, the quest to follow the cherished principles of life, the intention to lead an upright life and an orientation towards a life of righteousness. Before all these present electronic gadgets came into the picture, the books had acted as avenues of real knowledge systems of the world. The books also bestow upon us positive vibes, disciplined life and egalitarian vision of life.Today we have everything but the human relationships have taken a beating like never before, the gap between our words and deeds has increased phenomenally, the physical boundaries are reduced but
the mental barriers have grown in a substantial fashion. Our value system has taken a battering and we reside in a society which gives less importance to the moralities and ethical principles of life because we don't have comprehensive and holistic accommodative attitude towards the needs of our fellow human beings, still in today's world the books can usher in a world of creative, aesthetic, artistic, imaginative and blissful nature to all of us.Kudos to you for composing such a poem of magnificent nature.

MY SCHOOL IS CELEBRATING ITS 75TH FOUNDATION DAY ON 12.1.19. AND 13.1.19

MY SCHOOL(ALANAHAT HIGH SCHOOL)
BY-SMRUTI RANJAN MOHANTY

i know not
how much i love her
how much i crave for her
how much i miss her
miss her delicate touch
her scenic beauty and serene atmosphere

she is in the heart of my heart
in the soul of my soul
and my whole being is possessed by her
i see in her beauty and virtue personified
love and passion agglomerated
in her a panacea to all my maladies
an asylum for my tired mind and limbs

she is my love
Alanahat High School where i truly lived
where once walked the greats of our time
where i was groomed and schooled with my contemporary heroes and heroines who shined and dazzled in every field
and left their footprints on the mosaic of time

that was my school, where
teachers were gurus, students were sisyas
and the school was a gurukula, where nothing but love, commitment and concern reigned
nothing but the betterment of the students and the school mattered

that is my school
where the sun never sets
love never fades
winds never stop blowing
the queen of seasons at its fascinating best
where goddess saraswati truly resides
where the atmosphere still vibrates with the aroma and charisma of teachers and students of bygone days

far from the material world
and its glittering outlay
stands my school majestically on the bank of the devi river
where come students from various nook and corner
to fulfil their aspirations and have with them the symbol and dignity of the school forever

when there were no electricity, telephone and little means of communication
our school had an auditorium, a science lab, a big library, a cinema projector, a generator and a mini stadium
debates were held every week, where discussed and deliberated everything under the sun varying from regional to international scenario, from current affairs
to french and russian revolution.

that was my school where teachers were more like fathers, the epitome of love and commitment who left lucrative jobs and big money to work in this remote corner
where there was no scope to further their career
under their shadow, love and compassion the school grew and developed
excelled in every field, be it in academics, sports, oratory or literature

our head teacher was an encyclopaedia
a complete man with a clear vision
the pivot around which the school revolved
and reached the zenith of glory and success
the stories he used to tell in evening
still, guide his students shining and showing the way to millions in different corners

the teachers of our school were adept in
all subjects, from mathematics to sanskrit,
from english to geography, everything was
in their domain, students were never taught but made to learn among other things the values and dignity of life
the school stood on the sacrifice of the teachers who preferred a rural school
to modern amenities
and the students who never let their teachers down and shined in every field

given an option
i would love to go back to my school
to those awesome dreamy days
to that relationship, captivating and full
to those friends for whom one can live and die
to those revered teachers who were god incarnate
to that spellbinding atmosphere, a dream for many
i would love to walk miles on barefoot
under the scorching heat of sun and pears of shower
i would love to dance on my school corridor
play cricket and sprint on the field
i would love to gather me, my love and dreams
shattered in the flow tide of time
and that innocent smile i lost somewhere in between
